5.0 out of 5 stars LEGO Technic Limited Edition Set #8081 Extreme Cruiser, October 8, 2011

The 590 Parts are sorted in three numbered bags.
Bag 1 contains the complete chassis (excluding tires and rims).

The suspension of the front tires is independent. The rear Tires are linked together and swings simultaneous up and down. Under the Hood is enough space for a V6 but the Engine is poorly a V4. It seems the 8081 should with this engine better called a "City SUV".
The second Bag contains the First half of the body. This includes the Windshield, the roof and the Backdoor. The two seats ar bigger than in the most other Technic models.

The third bag is completing the cruiser.

The cruiser is rollng on the old known 68,7x34R ballon tires ,but with the new 6 hole rims. btw, new and old: the grey 16 tooth gears was modified to a more massive look in the last time. But the 8081 includes 2 of the old ones. Want TLG to continous both versions?

Difficult to build? no its easy to follow the three books, and it needs less than 2... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Technic sets I've come across, especially for the price!, February 3, 2012

If you can get this for a decent price, it is a great set to put together! I just picked it up for @sixty bucks, and can say it is worth every single penny. I've been collecting and building Lego models for about thirty years now, and I'm constantly blown away at the new and innovative things I find in the sets coming out these days. This model does present a small handfull of slightly advanced steps, so I'd definitely not get it for a small child, but that isn't the demographic for the Technic sets. This model does offer many great features, and I gave 5 stars for educational value because it instills the basics of a double wishbone front suspension, a solid rear axle, a semi-rack & pinionesque steering concept, and best of all, it offers a very fundamental version of a limited slip differential for the rear axles, all tied up to a motor with moving pistons. The motor, to be honest, was the one thing I was even remotely disappointed in. For the size of this model, the concept of it,... Read more

Concept Behind Legos For Girls

Concept Behind Legos For Girls

The concept behind the Lego building blocks is to harness the creative power of kids.Children have a lot of imagination but they do not have the means to express it fully.Through Lego, they can build virtually anything.A child gets over 9 million possible combinations with a set of six 2X4 Lego bricks. From the car to the city, the Lego block is an excellent way to develop the imagination of the kid.Lego are also crucial to develop social skills because it encourages group play and cooperation.Because the child has to handle the blocks quite adroitly in order to build anything, Lego are thought to have a positive impact on the development of motor skills. All in all, Lego are excellent development aids.To think that all these advantages are denied to girls is almost unthinkable.Yet, there is an incomprehensible bias towards boy-related themes in Lego toys (spacecraft, cars, machines, ninja fighters.Etc.).Girl-y themes are few and far between.A child will only spend time at a game if his/her interest is piqued.Without the appropriate theme, children would not be interested at spending enough time at the game to benefit from the above advantages. Some of the Girl themed Lego toys include..O Lego Pink Brick Box with flowers and pink blocks o House building sets (not particularly for girls but can be used to build dollhouses for example) o Lego Hospital Set o Lego Belville with girl dolls, puppies and horses. These examples compares feebly with the hundreds of themes available for boys.It is clear that Lego should consider developing more products that are specifically geared towards girls.

Amazon.com Review

Lego's Creator line is a collection of flexible, intricate model sets that come with detailed diagrams to make several different models. This one includes motion power, a Lego motor and battery pack that allows you to animate your models. The first instruction booklet shows how to build a crab robot in 39 steps, a front-wheel drive sports coup in 44 steps, and an insect walker in seven steps. The second booklet shows how to build a motorized helicopter with spinning rotors in 46 steps. The instructions are detailed but complicated, and include several intermediate routines along the way. These are challenging models to build, but rewarding for those just wild about the way gears work. The instructions show alternate model images, but not diagrams, of a working crane and a single-seat prop plane. Both the helicopter and crab models feature two rubber-tipped missile darts. Parents should note that a blunt, rubber, spring-loaded missile shoots about five feet from the completed model. It's not enough to do anything but pretend damage, but in the wrong hands, it could be used to make a younger sibling cry. Inside the box you'll find eight bags of bricks, a 2x16 piece, two power cords, four plastic tires, Lego motor block, power pack, and two instruction booklets. Also included is an illustrated block inventory with part numbers, in case you ever need to re-order a replacement block. Six AA-size batteries required for the power pack are not included. --Porter B. Hall

I bought this for my son's 7th birthday. I, his mother, helped him put it together the first couple of times so he could see how things went but since then he does them on his own. I enjoyed it as much if not more than he did and I'm 38 :) The only "problems" were keeping the pieces together sometimes when you had to move it around to fit other pieces on and making sure you followed the directions ACURATELY or things wouldn't work the way they were supposed to. Minor "problems" though

This is an excellent product that lives up to all the expectations that you would have from Lego. This was bought for a 7yr old and we had hours of fun building the models and playing with them. the instructions are clear and there are plenty of alternative ideas.

This is great for some serious 'quality' play-time and is highly recommended.

I purchased this set for my 10 year old son. He spent hours the first day assembling the helicoptor and was able to do it all without help from me. He was very proud of the result and everyone thought the missiles were too cool. He disassembled the coptor after a week or so and then built the next item and the next. This set kept him busy creating for hours with not a peep about playing video games. I love anything that exercises their minds. This is a great toy.
